A honest and clean tale, the film begins with the story of an old woman(Sukumari) who happens to be a mute lady and is the mother of a son.However, that seems to be her total point of struggle as he has been convicted as a terrorist and put behind bars and the concerned mother is busy trying to figure out where her son has been sent.The search goes on for days but in vain until the mother reaches a temple where everything gives her serenity and calm.The temple also gives free food everydday and the lady makes it her new home.

Not stopping at that, she voluntreers to do work for the temple and starts doing all activities like cleaning and many other related works.Soon, she develops a familiarity with the folks around and gets a name 'Kuniyamma'. However, as fate would have it her peace is short lived as one of the locals get to know that she is a non-Hindu and moreover her son happens to be a terrorist who is convicted for bomb explosion killing several hundreds.

All this is happening on a flashback mode which is being narrated by an investigating officer Aditya Varma (Mohanlal).What happens after that and how the investigation uncovers the truth forms the rest of the story.
